Ross from Friends Essentials

When Ross from Friends first appeared in the mid-2010s, the UK producer’s tongue-in-cheek alias and scuffed-up textures found him slotted alongside DJ Seinfeld and DJ BORING in what was briefly known as the lo-fi house scene. It’s true that early tracks like “Talk To Me You’ll Understand” have the fuzzy tone of an old cassette tape. But Ross (a.k.a. Felix Clary Weatherall) evolved quickly. With his 2018 Brainfeeder release, Family Portrait, he moved onto the richly collaged synths and samples of tunes like “Pale Blue Dot”, while 2021’s “Burner” is a positively hi-fi explosion of futuristic funk.
