Actor John David Washington broke out as Ricky Jerret in the HBO original series Ballers. Most recently, his portrayal of real-life former undercover police officer Ron Stallworth in BlacKkKlansman earned him an Oscar nomination. For Black History Month 2019, Washington created an exclusive playlist for Apple Music. “Music serves as a mechanism that initiates the purest sense of self and self-discovery and experiences of escapism,” he says. “I can download so much spirituality and energy when I submit, when I forfeit my human need to comprehend God's plan for everything.”
