Born in Moscow, Regina Spektor moved with her family to the Bronx and grew up against a musical background that paired American pop with her classically-trained roots. The singer/songwriter found her voice in the anti-folk scene that was sprouting up in the East Village of Manhattan in the early-‘00s. Following a series of albums sold at shows, ‘04's Soviet Kitsch was recorded under the watch of Gordon Raphael and showcased her talent for penning endearingly off-kilter lyrics. Her breakthrough moment came with '06's Begin to Hope, fueled by the whimsical charms of “Fidelity.”
