Coming out of Sweden in the mid-'90s, Refused's anti-capitalist, screaming hardcore punk with an electronic edge found an audience with 1998's The Shape of Punk to Come—but only after the band's initial demise. Flaming out from the perils of the road and running on empty creatively, Refused broke up shortly after the album's release, and their story would have ended but for the fact that they created a landmark sound that lived up to its namesake. A long-awaited reunion came to fruition at Coachella 2012, and the revived band continues to record.
