Real Estate Essentials

Real Estate's easy, breezy dream pop evokes hazy images of sleepy California surf towns, but there's just one catch: The band hail from the opposite coast. The Jersey boys debuted in 2009 with their self-titled album full of crisp, jangly surf rock doused in fresh coats of reverb. It's a sound they'd continue to refine with each release, capturing the clean, shimmering guitar tone of fellow Garden Staters Yo La Tengo in sun-dazed cuts like "Easy" and the softly swaying "Talking Backwards"—all of which ache with bittersweet nostalgia under Martin Courtney's lilting, languid croons.
