Latin pop boasts no shortage of talented contenders, each one vying for major chart placement, awards show recognition, and sold-out arena tours worldwide. Colombia’s own Manuel Turizo rightfully earned all of these and more this year, parlaying his prior reggaetón successes into something bigger than any one genre. While the inventive tropical hybrid “La Bachata” technically dropped in 2022, its genuine, fan-driven popularity carried it well into 2023, where it anchored his highly anticipated third album 2000. He continued to tinker with fusing styles around his own distinctive voice via the Marshmello-produced “El Merengue,” the Shakira team-up “Copa Vacía,” and the música mexicana collab “DE LUNES A LUNES” with Grupo Frontera. He traveled the world in support of this work, selling out concerts in cities throughout the US and Latin America, and even performed at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, leaving little doubt of how far he’s come.
