Santana Essentials

Santana roared onto the psychedelic scene in the late '60s with a furious mix of heavy blues, Latin rhythms, and guitar pyrotechnics from leader Carlos Santana. Their grooves anticipated the low-riding funk of bands like War, but they often came closer to the improvised mayhem of jazz fusion. Santana explored a more accessible sound in the '80s, but soon disappeared from the spotlight. Carlos Santana made an unexpected comeback in ''99 with the Supernatural album, adding his guitar flash to radio-ready hits, and he quickly became a platinum-selling pop star for a new generation.
