A British soul band with a mellow, jazzy sound, Simply Red also became a surprise success story in America during the late '80s with a mix of original material and covers of tracks by The Valentine Brothers and Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes. After '91's sophisticated Stars (which went 12 times platinum in the U.K. alone), Mick Hucknall and co. continued reworking others' oldies and writing classic tunes of their own, with '95's Life and '03's Home both spawning several hits. The group said farewell in '10, before reuniting for a 30th anniversary reunion tour in '15.
