Octets

An octet often consists of a string ensemble (playable by two string quartets, as with Mendelssohn’s masterpiece, written when he was only 16), but you can encounter other groups of eight, as you’ll find here. Schubert’s Octet, from 1824, inspired many other octets for the same combination of winds and strings.
