Born in 1991 to Caribbean immigrants, British saxophonist and bandleader Nubya Garcia has emerged as a key voice in London's jazz scene. Since dropping debut album Nubya's 5ive in 2017, she has consistently found new ways to build on her post-bop roots, incorporating reggae, funk, grime, hip-hop, and other ingredients into fiercely head-nodding music. While she's lent her talents to notable collectives, including polyglot combo Néjira, Garcia's vision shines brightest on her own recordings, particularly 2020 breakthrough SOURCE, where she peppers a tight band sound with well-placed cameos.
