Nelson Ned Essentials

Brazilian singer and composer Nelson Ned was born in 1947, rose to prominence in Brazil in the late '60s, and gained notoriety in continental Europe within a few years. In '74, he became the first Latin artist to sell a million records in the U.S., and as his international renown grew, he filled rooms like Carnegie Hall and Madison Square Garden. His melancholy and dramatic songs continued to draw crowds around the world until he converted to Christianity in '93, at which point he focused exclusively on devotional music. Ned died in 2014.
