Melbourne's MY DISCO paint all-consuming minimalist portraits that are often dissonant and bleak, but are always compelling. Their first EPs embraced angular math rock before debut album Cancer (2006) adopted an abrasive, spare sound spun from drums, bass and guitar. Their subsequent releases are ominous, entrancing exercises in repetition, eschewing traditional songwriting as ample space is given to thrums of sinister noise and uncomfortable silences. Sinister, elliptical opuses slowly unfold as they're pierced by distorted guitars, but drum-driven post-punk cuts remain devilishly danceable.
