Mos Def: Next Steps

Mos Def: Next Steps

Mos Def gave dimension to his roots by name-checking black rock heroes Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley on 1999's “Rock n Roll,” following through with his own band Black Jack Johnson on 2004's New Danger. And when covering Slick Rick's “Children's Story” or paying tribute to Grandmaster Flash's “The Message” on “Close Edge,” he sought out modern beats to breathe new life into their words.
