When Jose Luis Terrazas founded Montez De Durango in 1996, could he have known the pivotal role he’d go on to play in bringing the modern Mexican genre of Duranguense to a global audience? In the decades since, his outfit have arguably become the premier purveyors of the style, both breaking new ground within it with the cutting-edge crossovers of “Sólo Dejé Yo A Mi Padre” and “Lagrimillas tontas” and also being ready to return to their roots when the time is right, as they did on their 2016 album, De Vuelta A La Sierra, which was their 23rd release. They remain highly prolific.
