Mogwai might not enjoy the label, but they have undoubtedly established a legacy as one of post-rock's most important bands. Formed in 1995, they made a splash with their guitar-driven quiet-loud dynamic on early releases, before breaking out with 2001's Rock Action, a project that expanded the Mogwai sound to include an emphasis on electronic instrumentation. The band have since experimented with melodic arrangements on 2006's Mr. Beast, and even incorporated elements of krautrock on 2014's Rave Tapes.
