Men I Trust Essentials

Men I Trust Essentials

Men I Trust’s lush, airy melodies seem to float on forever, but the Canadian band is far more than indie music’s answer to yacht rock. While friends Jessy Caron (bass/guitar) and Dragos Chiriac (keyboards) dabbled in hip-hop and dance production as high schoolers, they began honing their electro-pop grooves as music students at Quebec City’s Université Laval, where they formed Men I Trust in 2014. Since the group’s self-titled debut—which featured several guest singers—it’s remained steadfastly independent. When vocalist and guitarist Emmanuelle Proulx officially joined in 2016, the band’s sound began to fully blossom. The trio’s woozy dream-pop breakthrough, 2018’s “Show Me How,” is just the tip of it; on mood-setting collections like 2019’s expansive Oncle Jazz, it steeps its arrangements in jazz, funk, indie pop, and endless yearning.
