Plucked from the Vancouver university bar scene in the early ‘90s and signed to a record deal a few short years later, the Matthew Good Band splashed onto the Canadian rock landscape in 1995 with their debut, Last of the Ghetto Astronauts—a major success despite being made on a shoestring budget. Built around the brash, politically conscious Matthew Good, the band's star continued to rise in the years to come, peaking with the 1999 Juno Award-winning smash Beautiful Midnight. The band dissolved after fraught studio sessions in 2002, but they'd already left their mark on Canada's rock scene—this playlist explores what all the fuss was about.
