Starting by playing in Brittany pubs in the '90s, Matmatah maintained their scrappy, raw edge even as they evolved into one of France's most beloved rock bands. Led by singer Tristan Nihouarn, Matmatah tie together diverse elements from across the rock spectrum—synth-driven alt-rock, sweetly melodic pop-rock, folk instrumentals and tropical funk all find a home in their creative compositions. The band went on hiatus in 2008, but returned in the '10s with Irish flutes and slow, contemplative electric guitar driving their quirky, alternative style.
