Matchbox Twenty Essentials

Matchbox Twenty's debut album, 1996's Yourself or Someone Like You, took the angst of grunge and gave it a rock makeover, with plenty of pop-inspired hooks and arena-rock guitars. Continuing into the ‘00s, the band helped define the decade's alternative sound with a number of charting singles, three albums, and a career-spanning compilation. During a group hiatus, lead singer Rob Thomas waded successfully into the solo waters, but reunited with his bandmates on the 2012 studio album North.
