The alter ego of Ohio-born musician Brian Warner, Marilyn Manson (the name of the artist, as well as his eponymously named band) rose to fame after catching the ear of Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor, who signed him to his Nothing Records label in 1994. A controversy magnet, Manson's bizarre appearance, provocative public image, and brutal brand of futuristic industrial metal had him labelled by some as a negative influence on young people, while he enjoyed immense international success in the ‘90s and ‘00s. Unfazed by his detractors, he continues to tour, record, and raise hackles.
