A master of suspense, Marco Beltrami creates scores that deliver whatever the action on screen requires: a surge of intensity, an atmosphere of tension and dread or something more delicate. Since the Long Island-born composer first gained prominence in the ‘90s, he’s displayed that versatility in his numerous collaborations with such directors as Guillermo del Toro, James Mangold and the late Wes Craven. Yet his spellbinding music for John Krasinski’s A Quiet Place thrillers may be the best proof of Beltrami’s knack for subtlety even in a movie’s most gripping and exhilarating moments.
