Los Tucanes de Tijuana Essentials

From performing at nightclubs for the working-class communities of the U.S.-Mexico borderlands to playing global stages like Coachella, Los Tucanes de Tijuana have taken their banda music to worldwide prominence. Formed in the late ‘80s in their namesake city, the Mexican legends helped kick off a norteña revival the following decade. Though initially banned in their hometown in the late ‘00s for grim narcocorridos like “El Águila Blanca”, these notorious Mexicans garnered wider fame when their 1995 energetic, polka-styled hit “La Chona” took off in 2018 as a viral video dance challenge.
