From the time she was growing up in Scarborough, Kira Huszar was drawn to music—she was singing before she knew how to speak, and she started writing songs at a young age. Her first single under the name LOONY, 2018’s “A Small Flame / Bitter,” quickly established her as an up-and-comer in the next wave of neo-soul, with her vocals darting in and out of a slick guitar line over a shuffling beat. Since then, LOONY has released a series of singles and EPs showcasing her exploratory spirit—”raw” has the loose feel of a late-night jam session, while the backing vocals on “Some Kinda Love” make her lovelorn lyrics seem heaven sent.
