Before Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, and, yes, even Gloria Estefan, Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam brought Latin-inspired English language music to the American pop scene. Fronted by New York-born Puerto Rican singer, Lisa Velez, along with guitarist/bassist Alex “Spanador” Moseley and drummer/keyboardist Mike Hughes, Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam took over '80s dance floors with their infectious freestyle/dance hits, “Can You Feel the Beat,” and “I Wonder If I Take You Home.” Exclusively produced by Full Force, the trio reached its apex with their 1987 sophomore platinum-selling album, Spanish Fly, which included the chart-topping hits “Head to Toe” and “Lost in Emotion.” Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam's influence can still be heard with artists like Nina Sky, Lopez, and new millennial up-and-coming singers such as Jasmine V and Fifth Harmony.
