Lee "Scratch" Perry Essentials

Lee "Scratch" Perry Essentials

Eccentric and brilliant, Lee “Scratch” Perry is reggae's most unpredictable icon. In the '60s and '70s, Perry produced hits for many ska, rocksteady, and reggae luminaries, including Bob Marley and The Wailers. Working out of his Black Ark studio in Kingston, Perry helped invent dub with remixes that emphasized heavy rhythms and startling psychedelic effects. As a solo artist, his albums bubble with hypnotically weird grooves and his inimitable stream-of-consciousness raps. After he burned the Black Ark down in '78, Perry went on to a prolific and globetrotting career as producer, singer, and collaborator.
