One of the longest-running contemporary groups in Mexican banda, La Original Banda El Limon was launched in the ‘60s by clarinet player Salvador Lizárraga Sanchez. The group earned its reputation for preserving the traditional sound of classic bandas while also experimenting with newer variations and arrangements. A host of major singers has fronted Banda el Limon throughout its history, including El Coyote and El Mimoso; additionally, René Camacho's La Arrolladora Banda el Limon was spawned from its ranks.
