Feminist icons L7 came storming out of Los Angeles in the late '80s with guitars blazing. Distortion-buzzed tracks like "Pretend We're Dead" and the bellowing "Andres" made them '90s grunge-punk luminaries, but the quartet also excelled at grinding out grooving stoner thrash ("Wargasm"), psychedelic heavy metal ("Shove"), and growling hard rock ("Monster"). After a decade-plus hiatus, L7 returned at gale-force speed with 2017's contorted punk single "Dispatch from Mar-a-Lago," a biting outburst of political invective that gouges like barbed wire.
