A jazz fixture since the '80s, prolific tenor saxophonist Joe Lovano populates his catalog with bold flights of imagination. That includes live cuts: He leads an entire symphony orchestra with weaving intricacy on “Eternal Joy,” while “Some Changes,” with the big-band-style Cleveland Jazz Orchestra, sees him reinvigorate a ‘20s-era standard. And the aptly titled “Modern Man,” with his band Us Five, positively sizzles with improvisatory flair.
