Named after a Bolivian high peak, this Chilean ensemble rarely finds stages big enough to accommodate their impressive bounty of instruments. With clarinets jostling against pan flutes and Argentinian tango sharing the dance floor with Andean folk, the Santiago-based outfit dig global fusion that never strays far from the sounds of the pueblo. Although a 15-year European exile helped inject certain continental qualities into their act, the fluid grandiosity of indigenous South America remains their primary inspiration, carrying them aloft since 1967.
