Jack and Meg White's lo-fi take on garage rock burst out of the Detroit scene in the late ‘90s. The duo's blend of thumping drum work and visceral guitar riffs quickly inspired like-minded artists, including hometown allies The Von Bondies, NYC art-rockers Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and Scottish post-punk revivalists Franz Ferdinand.
