Iceage Essentials

Iceage Essentials

While they were born in a cesspool of nihilistic dread, Denmark’s Iceage have gradually amassed one of the most ambitious and eclectic canons in modern punk. Even within the headache-inducing clamour of early tracks like 2011’s “White Rune”, you could sense a romanticism in frontman Elias Rønnenfelt’s voice that contrasted with the band’s impetuous energy. And as Iceage broadened their aesthetic palette, Rønnenfelt stepped out with more flamboyant performances: On the spirited cowpunk romp “The Lord’s Favorite”, he channels Nick Cave’s sacrilegious gospel, while 2018’s “Pain Killer” is a decadent duet with Sky Ferreira that’s steeped in Primal Scream’s sinister swagger.
