Human Nature Essentials

Four harmonizing teens pooled their love of classic doo-wop into a blockbuster boy band in the mid-'90s. But while early hits like “Wishes” and the John Farnham duet “Every Time You Cry” were timely hybrids of pop and R&B, Human Nature soon began recasting the golden oldies that first inspired them. After mastering the Motown songbook, they devoted the same degree of romantic articulation to tear-jerking ballads like “Stand by Me” on 2014's Jukebox. Their high, delicate voices are especially well suited to songs famously sung by women, such as The Bangles' “Eternal Flame” and The Ronettes' “Be My Baby.”
