Harper's Bazaar: The Playlist by FINNEAS

Harper's Bazaar: The Playlist by FINNEAS

If fashion and music go hand in hand—and of course they do—then think of playlists like a wardrobe, personally curated and deeply reflective of the wearer’s lifestyle, outlook, and more. This particular one shows the stylings of producer-singer-songwriter Finneas O’Connell, also known as FINNEAS, the musical director of the April issue of iconic fashion magazine Harper’s Bazaar, which is producing a series of playlists with different musicians, available only on Apple Music. The Grammy winner—who’s also brother and go-to collaborator to Billie Eilish—handpicked various tracks from artists like Frank Ocean and Nat “King” Cole, all of whom have reinvented themselves through their music, a concept that is fundamental to O’Connell. “I am very easily bored—I crave change and creation,” he says. Songs that have inspired O’Connell’s own reinventions are Angus & Julia Stone’s “Big Jet Plane” and Lana Del Rey’s “Born to Die,” which changed the way he thought about songwriting and production, respectively. However, Nat “King” Cole’s “Unforgettable” is possibly O’Connell’s biggest musical inspiration of all. “I bought an iPod Nano on eBay in 2019, and that song was already on it,” he says. “It was such an interesting way to hear a song for the first time. I fell in love with it and ended up walking onstage to it when I played the Troubadour [in Los Angeles] later that month.” With each issue of Harper’s Bazaar, this playlist will update with picks by their latest musical director, so stay tuned.
