Héctor Lavoe Essentials

There's a good reason that Héctor Lavoe's fans refer to him as “El Cantante de los Cantantes,” or “The Singer of Singers.” As the voice of Willie Colón's influential salsa band in the late ‘60s and early ‘70s, he was an instant success, thanks to his sharp wit and a knack for improvisation. By the late ‘70s, Lavoe's star continued to rise as a solo artist, thanks to hit albums like La Voz and Revento. Unfortunately, the Puerto Rican superstar struggled with vices (including a drug addiction), which contributed to his untimely death in 1993 at the age of 46.
