Since his solo debut in 2003, Gloc-9 has been an all-conquering presence on the Filipino music scene, repeatedly winning Rap Artist of the Year at the Philippine Hip-Hop awards. Favouring a live sound to overproduced electronics, his band create surprisingly intricate textures out of a simple setup of guitar, bass and drums. Gloc-9's lightning-quick delivery is underpinned by an ear for melody—he's equally at home with a hook-laden chorus as he is freestyling over a beat. His socially conscious lyrics tackle love, money and the day-to-day tensions of Filipino culture.
