George Enescu Essentials

George Enescu was a remarkable Romanian violinist, composer, and conductor of the 20th century who remained devoted to his country throughout his life, incorporating Romanian folk melodies into his compositions. His exceptional talent was noticed at a very early age, and he entered the Vienna Conservatoire as a violinist when he was only seven. Four years later, he went to Paris to study composition with Massenet. Among his violin pupils was Yehudi Menuhin, with whom he recorded. Enescu’s reputation as a composer is on the ascent as a new generation discovers his output, and his opera Oedipe is now seen on the stages of major opera houses.
