Galcher Lustwerk keeps it low-key. The Cleveland-born, NYC-based producer and DJ has never revealed his age or real name; for a while, he even hid his face in pictures. That reticence didn’t stop him from making a splash with 2013’s 100% Galcher, his breakout mixtape. Before long, his understated style of deep house overlaid with soporific rapping spawned imitators across the lo-fi continuum. Lustwerk has been remarkably prolific since his viral debut, recording multiple albums of dusky grooves for Ghostly International (including an unmixed 2022 reissue of 100% Galcher), an ambient soundtrack (2023’s Adaptation), and a slew of releases as Road Hog, a nod to his automotive obsession. Inspired by Mariah Carey’s seasonal releases, the staunchly underground producer even put out a Road Hog Christmas album. “I was just in a festive mood,” he tells Apple Music, sounding characteristically laid-back.
