G. Love & Special Sauce Essentials

Philadelphia-born Garrett "G. Love" Dutton rose from Boston's Harvard Square in the early '90s as a six-string-strumming, harmonica-blowing street performer. Both solo and with the addition of drums-and-bass duo Special Sauce, Love has played with the shape of his signature rubbery blues-inflected rock, giving it a folksy warmth alongside troubadour Jack Johnson (“Rainbow”) and a purring romanticism with Tristan Prettyman (“Beautiful”). And though when Love gets beefed-up and funky with an electrified band, he seems totally immersed in life's simple pleasures ("I-76," "Peace, Love and Happiness"), he just as convincingly slips into a soulful, bare-bones blues mournfulness (“Fixin' to Die").
