Francesco Landini Essentials

Francesco Landini was, by far, the most prolific known composer of the trecento, a lively period of artistic activity in late medieval Italy. He mostly wrote ballata, a genre derived from folk traditions that appealed to the rich mercantile class of 14th-century Florence. In his day, he was widely celebrated not only as a composer, but also as a performer, philosopher, and poet.
