Ezra Collective Essentials

Ezra Collective formed in 2012, their members meeting in the Tomorrow's Warriors jazz youth program. The London quintet use pan-stylistic grooves to forge a dance-friendly hybrid that's made them key figures in the city's new jazz scene. Sleek post-bop horns are applied to intensely percolating rhythms carved out by brothers Femi and T.J. Koleoso (on drums and bass, respectively), moving easily between Caribbean styles, hip-hop, Afrobeat, jungle, and more. The range of pianist Joe Armon-Jones reflects the innovations of Robert Glasper with a distinctly British flavor, whether enfolding the sultry soul of Jorja Smith or covering Sun Ra.
