Eluveitie Essentials

These Swiss folk metallers imbue old forms with new sounds, combining the sheer power of screeching, melodic death metal with the unique timbres of Celtic music and employing unusual-for-rock instruments like bagpipes and the hurdy-gurdy. A forceful collective that came together in 2002, Eluveitie explores Celtic mythology and culture in tracks like the weirdly catchy “Inis Mona” and the heavier, black metal-influenced “Rebirth.” Although the group has rotated more than two dozen musicians over the years, its heart and core has always been Chrigel Glanzmann, who wields countless instruments with a musical sorcery that few can match.
