Dr. John loved to mix the paints of different traditions. His album The Sun, Moon and Herbs crams several brands of Americana into a single LP: Eric Clapton's electric blues graces “Familiar Reality,” while low tuba notes foster a psychedelic brass-band vibe on “Zu Zu Mamou.” John also masked his ambition with an easygoing humor on ‘90s tracks like “Shut D Fonk Up.”
