Don Amero Essentials
As Don Amero’s style evolves, he always keeps a foot in the roots world. Born in 1980 in Winnipeg, MB, Amero has the working-class origin story to back up soulful folk songs like 2006’s “Freight Train,” released on his critically lauded debut, Change Your Life, shortly before he ditched his job installing hardwood floors. The catchy melodies of his early work hinted at the fuller sound he was angling for. Deepening (2009) and The Long Way Home (2010) boasted glossier production and showcased Amero’s gift for storytelling. In 2018, Evolution heralded the Cree and Métis songwriter’s foray into dynamic country-pop, and he’s become a commanding voice in the genre’s Canadian cohort, as evidenced by 2022’s soaring chart-climber “Let You.”
