Dominique Fils-Aimé Essentials

Contemporary R&B singer-songwriter Dominique Fils-Aimé crafts earthy, grounded works that reflect the African diasporic experience. Born in Montreal in 1984, she dedicated her first three albums, released between 2018 and 2021, to the ambitious exploration of Black art and music. The trilogy thematically focuses on African-American evolution, and sonically touches on the blues (“Birds”), jazz (“Constructive Interference”), and soul music (“While We Wait”). Her later material—including the sparse, percussive “Feeling Like a Plant” and the dense, evocative “My Mind at Ease,” from 2023’s Our Roots Run Deep—expands from this creative foundation. Dominique Fils-Aimé is committed to conveying the many iterations of Black culture and life through songs that feel rich, resonant, and expressive.
