Dark Horse Records Essentials

After spending the early ’70s cementing his legend as a solo artist, George Harrison started Dark Horse Records in 1974 to share both his music and the work of artists he admired. His perky, poppy 1977 hit “Crackerbox Palace” is an unforgettable example of the former. The latter includes Harrison mentor Ravi Shankar’s anomalous but irresistible English-language pop single “I Am Missing You,” the warm, rootsy rock of session-man dream team Attitudes’ “Honey Don’t Leave L.A.,” the Harrison-esque “Costafine Town” from Splinter, and the bass-slapping, good-time R&B of The Five Stairsteps’ “From Us To You,” to name but a few.
