This producer and multi-instrumentalist grew up listening to country music, so it's funny that he got his first big break in the early '80s collaborating with ambient music pioneer Brian Eno. Working with artists like U2, Bob Dylan, and Neil Young, Lanois has built an incredible sonic style out of this seeming contradiction, tempering gritty roots rock with ambient and psychedelic dreaminess.
