Cypress Hill Essentials

Born out of the ashes of the group Devastating Vocal Excellence, the rappers B-Real and Sen Dog teamed up with DJ Muggs to form as Cypress Hill in the late-'80s. With a style that blended dusty loops with blunted raps, the group's self-titled '91 debut album cast them as proud hip-hop stoners who nevertheless threatened a menacing and violent side. The eerie grooves of '93's platinum Black Sunday built on the formula as the trio continued to blaze a smoked-out trail through the rest of the decade.
