Chuck Mangione Essentials

Inspired by Dizzy Gillespie, Chuck Mangione honed his smooth, assured chops playing trumpet in Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers. In 1968, he switched to flugelhorn, whose mellower sound led to a stylistic pivot toward light, melodic pop—a shift that would find him recording the theme music to the film Cannonball Run, winning two GRAMMY® Awards, and penning the instrumental classic "Feels So Good." The horn player's more powerful side shines through in his Spanish-influenced Children of Sanchez suite.
