Chris Renzema belongs to a generation of CCM artists who look to secular indie rock and folk for inspiration. Growing up as a churchgoer in Grand Rapids, MI, the singer/songwriter began developing his contemplative style while still in high school. After debuting with the 2014 EP Age to Age, he dropped a string of independent releases that wrap his faith in plaintive songcraft influenced by Wilco. Renzema signed with Centricity Music in 2018, unveiling Let the Ground Rest two years later. The record is a nuanced collection of songs that examine hope and hardship and how the former ultimately flows through the latter.
