Caravãna Sun Essentials

Morphing over time to reflect the expanding scope of their festival audiences, Aussie quartet Caravãna Sun have evolved from the ska and reggae influences of 2013’s trumpet-driven Aya to dreamy American indie rock and European dance on 2016’s Guerilla Club. Formed in beachside Cronulla, New South Wales less than an hour from Sydney, the band were christened after an evocative spin on singer/guitarist Luke Carra’s surname. As swathes of international touring has encouraged their sound to grow ever more widescreen and euphoric, tracks like 2016’s “Eye of the Storm” have bridged the gap with lingering details like a ska-style guitar upstroke. And while 2022’s “Leave It Behind” shows just how adeptly Caravãna Sun can lock into compact rock refrains, Meerkat Meerkat’s percolating 2023 remix of “Moments” proves the sheer ease of porting their breezy, feel-good tunes into more of a club setting. In fact, the same year’s “Hearts Awake” brandishes an electronic pulse to match Carra’s anthemic yearning, propelling his bubbly chorus into the stratosphere.
